Pay Per Click Affiliate Advertising – Increasing Your Affiliate Marketing Income

If you need your new Affiliate Business Website to show up quickly in the search engines and can’t wait for it to rise to the top of the search results naturally, via search engine optimization, then your option may be to ‘pay to play’ using pay-per-click marketing.

Perhaps:

New Website – It hasn’t yet risen in the Search Engines results. But you need to show up in Google.

New Product – You need to promote a product or service and need to reach your target market.

New Business – Budget tight? PPC can offer great ROI and fit in with any size budget.

Pay-Per-Click or Contextual advertising could well be the answer

You’ve no doubt seen the little box ads, often on the right hand side of the search engines results and often on other websites as well. Pay-per-click advertising is an effective and targeted form of online advertising that allows you to control the costs of your advertising by only paying when your interested visitors actually click through to your website.

So What Is Pay-Per-Click Advertising?

At it’s simplest PPC is a three line ad that often appears on pages with the search results. The ads are shown when keywords, or search terms that are entered into the ‘search box’ by users of the search engines and then trigger your ad to show.

Advertisers ‘bid’ on keywords and link them to specific ads that will show as a result of the keywords being used in the ‘search box’.

Simple Yet Highly Targeted

Pay-Per-Click’s seemingly simple system has an amazing array of tweaks and twiddles to help the affiliate advertiser target ‘exactly’ the type of customer they wish to market to.

Unlike print or billboard advertising, which is untargeted & doesn’t appeal to 90% of the passing audience, Pay-per-click has the ability of only being seen by the target market, people who are highly interested in what you are advertising, making it highly affective when used at it’s best.

An Example Of Using Pay-Per-Click

Let’s say that you’re selling ‘Treadmills’ and you only want to appear to anyone looking to buy a treadmill.

With Pay-per-click advertising you ensure that the only time that your advert, ‘selling treadmills’, appears is when the actual word ‘Treadmill’ is used by those searching the internet for ‘treadmills’ – not ‘rowing machines’ or ‘exercise bikes’.

Instant High Quality Traffic

Further more, unlike magazines, billboards, flyers, TV or radio, you only pay when a visitor clicks on your advert, making it highly targeted and highly affordable advertising.

Unique Advertising Format

No other advertising format has ever been so efficient at targeting customers & controlling your affiliate marketing costs.

Level Playing Fields For All Businesses

Unlike the expenses involved in traditional print advertising and those of TV or Radio adverts, Pay-per-click allows businesses of all sizes and with the most limited budgets to reach a world wide audience and win the custom of buyers over their bigger competitors.

High Returns On Investment

A further huge advantage of pay-per-click advertising over traditional advertising is that once the visitor ‘clicks’ the advert they will be taken to the exact page of a website that is designed to convert a visitor into a buyer – Highly Effective Targeting.

If the visitor has reached the point, in the buying cycle, of wishing to make a purchase then, if you show them what they are looking for, they are very likely to take out their wallets and click the ‘buy now’ button.

If you have built well crafted pages then your conversion from visitors to customers can be unbelievably high.

For The Beginner & The Advanced User

Unlike many services and tools on the internet, pay-per-click is easy to get started with. Google advertise that you can have a campaign up and running in less that 15 minutes. This is indeed true, however having an active campaign and having an effective campaign are two different things.

Running a pay-per-click campaign takes some knowledge and understanding.

Pay Per Click & Affiliate Marketing

There are many good reasons why you might consider using pay per click in your affiliate business marketing mix.

If you’re working in niche and you want to build highly targeted traffic to your affiliate website then, if the price is right, pay per click can bring highly targeted traffic to your site, people looking for exactly what you are promoting.

If you have just begun your affiliate marketing website then you may be waiting for the search engines to crawl your site or for it to rise in the natural search results. Pay per click can help you to be seen on page one of search engines.

If you know that certain websites, that your intended market will browse, host pay per click adverts, then you could target those sites to appear and drive traffic to your affiliate website.

Find out how PPC Advertising increases your Affiliate Business ROI by using PPC as part of your website marketing mix.

Want to know how to use pay per click effectively in your marketing mix?

Take a look at both ‘The Super Affiliate Handbook’ or ‘Affiliate Project X’ both have great sections on using pay per click to maximise your affiliate marketing commissions.
If you are new to it pay per click advertising may be expensive. Here is a strategy on how to do it without breaking your budget.

Perhaps you’re thinking about taking your business online. Maybe you’ve already launched a website, but you’re not getting the amount of traffic you’d hoped for. You don’t want to spend a fortune on internet marketing, but you need to attract visitors to your site, so you can start making sales. How do you quickly build a flow of traffic, so your website can start making you money?

Pay per click marketing is one of the best ways to quickly drive traffic to your website. You’ve probably heard that pay per click advertising can be very expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. If you know how pay per click marketing works, you can take a few simple steps to create ads that will attract readers without emptying your wallet.

In case you’re not familiar with pay per click advertising, here’s how it works. You bid on words and phrases, called “keywords”, that you believe people will use to search for the products or services you offer. Then, you write short ads to entice people to visit your website. When a person enters your keywords in a search engine, your ad will display in the search engine listings. The higher your bid compared to other bids for the same keywords, the more likely your ad will appear on the first page of the search results.

With pay per click advertising, you do not pay each time your ad is shown, like you would with banner ads or other pay per impression marketing. Instead, you only pay when someone clicks on your ad and visits your website.

Google and MSN both offer pay per click advertising. You can easily sign up for either pay per click program – setting up an account only takes about 5 minutes!

The best way to save money on pay per click advertising, and get the most out of your marketing dollars, is to carefully research your keywords before you set up your marketing campaign. New internet marketers often choose common, obvious keywords, not realizing that many other marketers are bidding on the same keywords. By researching less obvious keywords, you can avoid a lot of the competition that can drive up the price you pay per click.

Let’s look at an example, to see this principle in action.

John decides he wants to sell shoes online. He designs and launches a website, and begins to build his pay per click marketing campaign. He decides that he will bid on the keywords “shoes”, “boots”, and “sandals”. Because several hundred other marketers are using the same keywords, John has to place a maximum bid of $5.00 per click to get his ad on the first page of results.

After running his pay per click campaign for two weeks, he has driven 300 visitors to his website, and sold $1,000 worth of shoes. However, at $5.00 per click, he has spent $1500 on pay per click marketing. Although he has gained traffic, he has lost $500 in the process.

Mike also decides he wants to sell shoes online. Like John, he sets up a website, and begins building his pay per click campaign to quickly build traffic. But unlike John, Mike decides that common keywords like “shoes” and “boots” are too competitive to build a profitable campaign.

Instead, he researches other keywords, and discovers that people also frequently search for “red women’s heels”, “waterproof hiking boots”, and “lightweight athletic sandals.” He also finds that because there is little competition for these keywords, he can make his ads appear on the first page of search results with a maximum bid of fifteen cents per click.

Mike launches his campaign using these three keywords. After two weeks, he has also received 300 visitors, and has sold $1,000 in shoes. However, unlike John, Mike has only spent $45 on pay per click marketing. He has gained $955 in revenue from his marketing efforts.

Of course, the example above greatly exaggerates the simplicity of selecting cheap, effective keywords. However, with a little research and patience, you can find keywords that will bring you traffic without costing you a fortune.

So how do you find lesser known keywords? Stop thinking like a marketer and start thinking like a customer. If you were looking for a new pair of shoes online, what would you type in a search engine? Chances are, you would not just search for “shoes” or “boots”, because that would give you too many irrelevant results. Instead, you would probably be looking for a certain kind of shoes or boots.

By thinking about how you would phrase your search if you were a potential customer, you can come up with better keywords. In reality, you will not only pay less per click, you will probably turn more visitors into buyers. This is because when you use specific keywords, people that click on your ad find exactly what they are looking for!

Another good way to find cheap, effective keywords for your pay per click campaigns is to browse catalogs or website content used by your competitors. Many marketers use descriptive text in catalogs, print ads, and website content, but fail to use the same care when building pay per click campaigns.

You can capitalize on the weakness in your own pay per click campaigns. Try out the words and phrases that catch your eye. You’ll probably find several that have low bid costs. Use these as your keywords, and you will quickly drive a steady stream of cheap, targeted traffic to your website.

As you can see, you don’t have to pay a lot for your pay per click marketing campaigns. Let your competitors fight over the common keywords. They’ll just end up running themselves out of business by paying top dollar for ad clicks.

Meanwhile, by doing a little research and using your imagination, you will have built a pay per click campaign that is both effective and profitable. It takes a little more time than choosing obvious keywords, but the results will be well worth it!

What you are about to read may surprise most Australians but it is very possible to generate a very sizable income even in Australia through Pay Per Click marketing. Whilst there have been many sad stories of people losing a great deal of money through this form of online business, if its done right, you can in fact make huge amounts of money. This article looks at Pay Per Click marketing and gives some advice on how to avoid losing money.

Pay Per Click (also known as PPC) is a form of Affiliate Marketing that has the potential to make you a very sizable extra or primary income if done correctly.

As the name suggests, Pay Per Click rewards affiliates a commission for visitors either clicking on a link to a merchant’s website or clicking on a link and then doing something like filling out a form with their details (this is commonly called Cost Per Action). The visitor doesn’t have to actually purchase anything from the merchant for the affiliate to get paid, which is why this form of Affiliate Marketing is very attractive to many people.

Commissions for Pay Per Click can range from just 0.01c per click to $1-10 for filling out a form, right up to $US80 for some very niche products. The average Pay Per Click & Cost Per Action commission is $1-5. This might not seem much but imagine if you could get at least 100 people doing that a day just for one Pay Per Click campaign. You could then have literally hundreds of these campaigns if you can manage it, and then you are talking about some serious cash!

There are many Pay Per Click programs available out there that you can join to start making these commissions. They are run by search engines or dedicated affiliate networks. The following are the most well known for Australians:

Google: The most popular search engine in the world generates a huge portion of its revenue through Pay Per Click advertising. If you conduct any search on Google, you are bound to see a section at the top & right hand side of the results page that have the title “Sponsored Links”. These links are in fact advertisements paid for by merchants or Pay Per Click marketers all over the world. Essentially advertisers only pay Google for these ads when someone clicks on their link. Google then runs an advertising program called Adsense Anyone who owns a website can display Google Adsense links on their site. If a visitor to their site clicks on a link, you get a Pay Per Click commission. The amount will depend on how much that link cost to the advertiser. It has been known that some very niche products will pay up to $US80 for a click, but this is the absolute exception rather than the norm. Depending on what sort of subject your site is about, your PPC commission will probably average around $0.10-$2.00. But this isn’t bad for doing nothing but displaying some ads on your website, and you didn’t even have to sell advertising space to the advertisers!

Yahoo: Similar to Google, Yahoo runs a Pay Per Click program through its subsidiary Overture. The program works pretty much the same as Google, the only difference is that Yahoo vets all advertisers before allowing them to purchase ads through their system. They also vet all publishers of websites so that not anyone is posting Yahoo ads on their site.

ClixGalore Australia: ClixGalore is a well known Affiliate Network. Commissions are paid to affiliates for Pay Per Click (or Cost Per Action or as a percentage of the sale). The great thing about ClixGalore over many other affiliate networks is that it has an Australian branch that specializes in Australian companies. There are many well known companies that advertise through ClixGalore including ANZ Bank, Citibank, Fox Sports, OPSM, Interflora etc, as well as many online brands like DealsDirect, RosesOnly, RedBalloon etc.

Commissions Junction: Commissions Junction or CJ is a very professional affiliate network that features some of the biggest names in the world including eBay, Dell, Lenovo, Apple, Monster, AT&T, Adobe etc. They are also starting to get more Australian advertisers which is good. CJ features a lot of information including CJU – Commissions Junction University, which is an online learning resource all about affiliate marketing.

There are many other Pay Per Click networks available and there are a huge growing number of Cost Per Action networks as well.

But before you go out and start participating in Pay Per Click affiliate marketing, be warned that this one area of affiliate marketing that is not for the uneducated. There are many sad stories out there of people who have lost thousands of dollars, if not more, trying their hand at PPC marketing only to make an overall big loss. Without the right education you wouldn’t know something like the fact that Google is penalising Pay Per Click marketers for their ads if the ad sends a visitor directly to the merchant’s website. Their penalty is that they will increase the cost of your ad sometimes by a large amount. Many people think their ad costs are increased because of competition and so they may even be motivated to accept the higher amount because it seems like a profitable product they are promoting, when in actual fact its just Google policy to increase the amount of ads that go directly to a Cost Per Action website. Of course there are ways around this, but this needs a whole new dedicated post if not pages to explain!

What you need to do is do as much research as you can about Pay Per Click. There are copious amounts of resources out there, lots of forums you can register on & ask questions, lots of guidebooks you can buy – lots of information. Learn as much as possible before jumping into Pay Per Click.

In this article I will touch upon the pros and cons of what many are seeing as the holy grail of internet marketing in pay per contact and some of the reasons for the attraction to pay per contact.

Education is the name of the game in today’s competitive Internet, especially when it comes to MLM Marketing. It seems that every guru and guruette is now spilling the beans on how to create effective pay per click campaigns. The market is also seeing a number of keyword research tools that are making it easier for newbies to find those hidden gems they would generally not uncover without these new software tools. Many newcomers and veteran pay per click promoters are fast realizing that the cost of an effective pay per click campaign is rising and profitable keyword bids are becoming increasingly popular which is also driving the price up at a steady pace.

As in any market when the return on investment starts getting lower people generally begin to look at alternatives to reduce their expenses while simultaneously increasing their ROI. There is no doubt that pay per click, aside from an email blast is the fastest way to get traffic to your website but the cost prohibits it from being a long term viable solution to traffic for most marketers. This is the primary reason for the emergence of the Pay Per Contact industry. This industry includes CPA or Cost Per Action, Co- Registration and the infamous Pay Per call. Let’s cover some of these options one by one. First let’s talk about CPA. The concept is simple rather than paying per click you offer a flat price you will pay for a targeted prospect to take some type of action. This could be providing their name email and phone number for someone to contact them for more information about your mlm business opportunity or as little as providing their zip code. While this seems to be a great alternative to pay per click most CPA networks generally have a sizeable minimum order you need to place and in many cases you will have to make a deposit up front before you can begin a campaign. In addition, with many offers on the network paying a lot more than you may be willing to pay for a lead the publishers (website owners who have tons of traffic) will generally focus their efforts on targeting traffic to the offers that pay them more money. For example if you are going to pay 50 cents per lead and another company is willing to pay $5.00 per lead for similar info your offer will not be chosen. With CPA you have eliminated the cost per click but you may end up paying a hefty fee per lead. In addition you may not get a lot of leads if what you are willing to pay is less than others. It is worth investigating but your success will largely depend upon what you are marketing and your profit margin.

Co-registration is becoming very popular as well in the pay per contact arena. This is basically where someone signs up for a service like hotmail and before they can access their account they see a number of ads and offers they can opt to get more information about. This is where your ad would be placed. While this is a viable way to get leads there are a number of variables to consider in generating a campaign that gets results. The purpose of this article is not to delve into what makes a campaign work, and there are many, but the particulars. The biggest drawback to co-registration is that most networks have high minimum orders, in many cases the minimum is $1000 or more. This is a major factor you should consider when deciding between pay per click and pay per contact using co-registration. With that said the advantage over pay per click is clear, your cost is fixed per lead, NOT per click!

The next topic is the biggest one to watch out for which is pay per call. Quite frankly I suggest a lot of thought and research on what you are marketing before you consider this option. On the surface this seems like the holy grail of marketing! You only pay for each person that calls you after reading your ad! It should be a piece of cake to get sales when people are calling you right? Not necessarily! With Pay Per call there are two methods I am aware of.

First is using a bidding system where you deposit an amount of money into your account, the minimum I have seen is $25. Then you create your ad and place a bid for how much you will pay for someone to read your ad and dial your phone number for more information. While this seems intriguing there are some little known things you should know before you rush out and deposit money into a pay per call campaign. The way the bidding system works is you have a minimum bid you can offer per call you will need to pay only 1 penny more than the next highest bidder when your bid wins. What most people don’t know is that many people are willing to pay up to $20 or more per call! This works against you even f the company you are contracting with has a minimum bid of $2.00 because most people are bidding $10.00 or more! The minimum bid really means nothing if others are bidding a lot more than that. If you bid lower your ad will virtually never get shown! The networks similar to CPA networks will want to show the ads that pay them the most per contact. The other drawback is since they only show a few ads per page your ad may go unseen for quite some time if it is seen at all since your bid is so low! Here is the worse part, if you deposit your money and are not bidding high enough your money just sits there giving you no benefit and most likely will never give you any benefit unless you increase the amount of money you are willing to pay per contact. This virtually puts you into a similar situation as with pay per click competition except you get NO exposure and no results unless you keep raising your bid to be amongst the top few. Once your money is deposited you may find it very difficult to get a refund if you can get one at all. I do NOT recommend a pay per call bidding system especially if you are intending to market an MLM Business Opportunity unless you have a high ticket item that pays you a hefty commission and you are good at turning prospects into sales, even then I recommend the second option.

The second pay per call option I want to cover is a flat rate pay per call system. This is the best way to go with pay per call but still has a gotcha or two. In this environment you pay a flat fee per call depending upon the category you are interested in generating calls from. For home based business the cost is around $12.00 per call. This option may seem to cost more than the pay per call bidding system but when you find out what is truly going on your cost will most definitely be less with the flat fee. The only other difference with the flat fee is that you have to deposit more money up front. The minimum I have seen is $250. In addition there is no guarantee how many calls you will get or how often. After you deposit your money you may get an average of 2-5 calls per week! This is generally not enough activity to keep you busy after spending that type of money.

In summary pay per contact has some benefits over pay per click but don’t be mislead by the hype. In my opinion a proper co-registration campaign is the most cost effective and consistent producer of all pay per contact options. Do some research and you will find a good source that can help you set up a proper co-registration campaign that gets results on far less of a budget than you are using for pay per click. If you are interested in pursuing a co-registration campaign but do not have a lot of money I wrote an article about how to get opt in leads for your business for less than the cost of a moderately popular keyword in pay per click.
Pay per click advertising can be the greatest thing you've ever stumbled upon or your worst nightmare. This article briefly discusses what pay per click advertising is and what to avoid doing when first starting out.

For some of you, this question might seem a little silly. Of course if you already knew what the term pay per click meant, you wouldn’t be reading this article. Maybe you’re just curious about what my definition of pay per click is. For those of you reading this who are brand new to Internet marketing and don’t know what pay per click is, this article should give you a pretty good education on the subject.

Pay per click is really just as it sounds. You pay each time a person clicks on an advertised ad to your website. How much you pay is dependent on a number of factors, and that is really where pay per click advertising can run you through the mill if you’re not careful.

The main pay per click services are probably Google, Yahoo and MSN. Google is by far the most popular as they arguably have the top ranked search engine in the world. Actually, if you want to be technical, according to the latest Alexa rankings, Yahoo is number 1, Google is number 3 and MSN is number 2. But don’t let anybody kid you, as far as pay per click goes, Google practically has a monopoly on the service.

On a purely technical level, pay per click is very simple. You sign up with the pay per click service that you want to use, set up your ads, tell the service the maximum amount your want to spend each time somebody clicks on one of your ads and that’s pretty much it. Unfortunately, running a successful pay per click campaign is not so easy. Just as unfortunately, the how to of running a successful pay per click campaign is beyond the scope of this article. In my signature is a resource that will give you additional information on the subject.

Before you even decide to get involved with running a pay per click campaign, get as much information that you can about each pay per click service, because each one has a different terms of service. For example, some services require you to pay for a certain number of clicks in advance, even before you get them. Other services, like Google, only charge you after you have gotten clicks to your site. They do, however, have a setup fee for getting an account with them.

The point is, don’t go into pay per click advertising blindly. The costs can really kill you if you don’t know what you’re doing. Ads that shouldn’t cost you more than 10 cents for each click can end up costing you much more. Not targeting your advertising to certain geographic locations can also cost you money in wasted clicks. The list of things that can go wrong and cost you a fortune are endless. So get educated. Pay per click advertising is not something that you casually do. It is something that requires hours of research before you can really take on a pay per click campaign and run it successfully.

However, comparing the effectiveness of these disciplines based on click cost can give an inaccurate picture of their respective ROI. Learn more about the innate differences between these marketing strategies as well as how to better quantify the results from each.

As click costs rise, many companies who are already investing in active pay per click marketing campaigns are looking toward hiring a search engine optimization company to supplement their marketing portfolio in order to increase their exposure and reduce their advertising spend. In some cases, frustrated by click fraud and increasing click costs, marketers are using search engine optimization to completely replace pay per click marketing. However, these companies will often try to evaluate search engine optimization using the same methodology that they had used for pay per click – by figuring out the cost per click.

In almost every case, a campaign created by a reputable search engine optimization company will eventually garner lower per-click costs than pay per click marketing for any industry. Yet using cost per click to compare the effectiveness of these two separate disciplines is comparing apples to, well, anything other than apples. The crucial difference between these two approaches is that pay per click marketing is more of an advertising investment, while search engine optimization is more appropriately likened to an investment in infrastructure. While both have their merits in terms of increasing a company’s online exposure, it is important to understand the differences in the respective investments and to determine why cost per click is not a fair indicator of the performance of a search engine optimization company.

Pay Per Click Marketing

Advertising investments of all kinds, from billboards to print ads to television spots to pay per click marketing, all share a common trait. They exist in the public eye for as long as a company is willing to pay for them. Stop paying, and they disappear. True, a print ad may continue to exist for a while after it runs (until the newspaper or magazine gets recycled, at least), and a television spot may get attention if it wins any awards (or winds up on YouTube). But a pay per click marketing campaign will simply vanish as soon as the budget is cut. This means that when a company reduces its advertising spend in this arena, it loses all of its exposure immediately.

What does this really mean? Well, for one, it means that figuring out the average per-click costs of a pay per click marketing campaign makes sense because everything happens in real time. A pay per click campaign will begin nearly instantly after a company signs up and pays, and it will vanish just as quickly when the company ceases payment. In other words, there is a clear delineation of when a campaign begins and when it ends.

This delineation is important, because it excludes many other potential factors that muddy the waters when you try to apply this same ROI analysis to a campaign created by a search engine optimization company.

Search Engine Optimization

As said previously, utilizing a search engine optimization company can be likened to making an investment in the infrastructure of a business rather than an investment in advertising. This is because with search engine optimization, there is no clear delineation of where the benefit from the campaign ends. If a business stops paying its search engine optimization company at any point after the campaign has been launched (presuming they have hired a decent search engine optimization company), there will continue to be results from that campaign for an extended period of time – usually many months or even years.

Of course, it is not recommended that any business actually quit an ongoing SEO campaign because a good search engine optimization company will always be expanding and honing that campaign over time to make it more successful over the long term. However, budgets get revisited and revised. Decision makers can change. And if the budget for SEO does get cut, a business will continue to see results for long after. How, then, can you determine value on a per-click basis? The simple answer is that you can’t.

It should be noted that while maintaining ongoing results after payments have ceased is a big upside to search engine optimization, the inverse downside is that an effective campaign put in place by a search engine optimization company can take some time to implement, and the results may not appear for weeks or months. A search engine optimization campaign takes patience, effort, and, most of all, time. If a business needs its marketing campaign to be up and running immediately, pay per click marketing is going to be a better short-term choice.

Conclusion

It is important to recognize the innate differences in pay per click campaigns and search engine optimization when trying to quantify results. A pay per click marketing campaign can have a definitive beginning and end, which makes cost per click a good way of determining ROI. Yet the results gained from hiring a search engine optimization company, although an SEO campaign can take much longer to implement, will outlast the results from a pay per click campaign if a business ever needs to cut spending. And this is where the notion of analyzing the effectiveness of a search engine optimization campaign on a cost per click basis breaks down.
