What you are about to read may surprise most Australians but it is very possible to generate a very sizable income even in Australia through Pay Per Click marketing. Whilst there have been many sad stories of people losing a great deal of money through this form of online business, if its done right, you can in fact make huge amounts of money. This article looks at Pay Per Click marketing and gives some advice on how to avoid losing money.

Pay Per Click (also known as PPC) is a form of Affiliate Marketing that has the potential to make you a very sizable extra or primary income if done correctly.

As the name suggests, Pay Per Click rewards affiliates a commission for visitors either clicking on a link to a merchant’s website or clicking on a link and then doing something like filling out a form with their details (this is commonly called Cost Per Action). The visitor doesn’t have to actually purchase anything from the merchant for the affiliate to get paid, which is why this form of Affiliate Marketing is very attractive to many people.

Commissions for Pay Per Click can range from just 0.01c per click to $1-10 for filling out a form, right up to $US80 for some very niche products. The average Pay Per Click & Cost Per Action commission is $1-5. This might not seem much but imagine if you could get at least 100 people doing that a day just for one Pay Per Click campaign. You could then have literally hundreds of these campaigns if you can manage it, and then you are talking about some serious cash!

There are many Pay Per Click programs available out there that you can join to start making these commissions. They are run by search engines or dedicated affiliate networks. The following are the most well known for Australians:

Google: The most popular search engine in the world generates a huge portion of its revenue through Pay Per Click advertising. If you conduct any search on Google, you are bound to see a section at the top & right hand side of the results page that have the title “Sponsored Links”. These links are in fact advertisements paid for by merchants or Pay Per Click marketers all over the world. Essentially advertisers only pay Google for these ads when someone clicks on their link. Google then runs an advertising program called Adsense Anyone who owns a website can display Google Adsense links on their site. If a visitor to their site clicks on a link, you get a Pay Per Click commission. The amount will depend on how much that link cost to the advertiser. It has been known that some very niche products will pay up to $US80 for a click, but this is the absolute exception rather than the norm. Depending on what sort of subject your site is about, your PPC commission will probably average around $0.10-$2.00. But this isn’t bad for doing nothing but displaying some ads on your website, and you didn’t even have to sell advertising space to the advertisers!

Yahoo: Similar to Google, Yahoo runs a Pay Per Click program through its subsidiary Overture. The program works pretty much the same as Google, the only difference is that Yahoo vets all advertisers before allowing them to purchase ads through their system. They also vet all publishers of websites so that not anyone is posting Yahoo ads on their site.

ClixGalore Australia: ClixGalore is a well known Affiliate Network. Commissions are paid to affiliates for Pay Per Click (or Cost Per Action or as a percentage of the sale). The great thing about ClixGalore over many other affiliate networks is that it has an Australian branch that specializes in Australian companies. There are many well known companies that advertise through ClixGalore including ANZ Bank, Citibank, Fox Sports, OPSM, Interflora etc, as well as many online brands like DealsDirect, RosesOnly, RedBalloon etc.

Commissions Junction: Commissions Junction or CJ is a very professional affiliate network that features some of the biggest names in the world including eBay, Dell, Lenovo, Apple, Monster, AT&T, Adobe etc. They are also starting to get more Australian advertisers which is good. CJ features a lot of information including CJU – Commissions Junction University, which is an online learning resource all about affiliate marketing.

There are many other Pay Per Click networks available and there are a huge growing number of Cost Per Action networks as well.

But before you go out and start participating in Pay Per Click affiliate marketing, be warned that this one area of affiliate marketing that is not for the uneducated. There are many sad stories out there of people who have lost thousands of dollars, if not more, trying their hand at PPC marketing only to make an overall big loss. Without the right education you wouldn’t know something like the fact that Google is penalising Pay Per Click marketers for their ads if the ad sends a visitor directly to the merchant’s website. Their penalty is that they will increase the cost of your ad sometimes by a large amount. Many people think their ad costs are increased because of competition and so they may even be motivated to accept the higher amount because it seems like a profitable product they are promoting, when in actual fact its just Google policy to increase the amount of ads that go directly to a Cost Per Action website. Of course there are ways around this, but this needs a whole new dedicated post if not pages to explain!

What you need to do is do as much research as you can about Pay Per Click. There are copious amounts of resources out there, lots of forums you can register on & ask questions, lots of guidebooks you can buy – lots of information. Learn as much as possible before jumping into Pay Per Click.

So what’s one of the fastest ways to jump start the flow of traffic to your website or blog as a Realtor? Pay-per-click internet marketing! It costs money but I’m going to show you a twist that may save you some cash, with Facebook. Pay-per-click internet marketing is simple but it’s not. It’s cheap but it isn’t.

You probably already know about pay-per-click internet marketing but in case you don’t, think about when you do a search on Google. You’ll type in the phrase (keyword) you’re searching for and a list of website results will show up in the middle of the page.

But you’ll also see 2-3 highlighted results at the top of the results plus a list of different looking results running down the right side of the page.

The results that show up in the middle are called “organic results” from SEO (search engine optimization). The rest of the results are pay-per-click internet marketing ads, which is what we’re focusing on today.

What website advertisers, like yourself, will do is set up a Google AdWords account (or Yahoo, or MSN or any other search engine that allows pay-per-click internet marketing ads) and write up a couple of short ads, which will appear as I explained above.

The website advertiser will then pick some “keywords” that they think prospects would search with if they were looking for a site like theirs. They will set the price they’re willing to pay Google or Yahoo or MSN if someone who searches with those keywords actually clicks on their ad and goes to their website.

How much you are willing to pay for each click will determine how high up you are on the search results. You can bid whatever price you want. But bid too low and your ad will never appear. Bid too high and you could be wasting a ton of cash.

After you pick some keywords and set your bid amounts, the pay-per-click system you’re using will tell you where you’re ranking in the results. This way, if you’re ranking 20th or not even ranking at all, you know you need to increase your bid price if you want to appear higher in the results.

The nice thing about most pay-per-click internet marketing accounts is they let you set a daily spending limit. This way, you can set the price you’re willing to pay for each keyword as well as the total amount you’re willing to spend each day.

So if you reach your limit half way through the day, your ad will basically stop showing until the following day and your daily budget starts all over again. This keeps your financials under control.

One of the keys to a successful pay-per-click internet marketing campaign is selecting enough keywords. You don’t typically want to compete with other advertisers for the “mainstream” keywords like “Seattle real estate“. It’s a bit broad and very competitive. You’d probably have to pay a few bucks per click just to get on the first page of results.

So one solution is to use a good “Keyword Research Tool”. Google has one of their own, which is great to use. The problem with Google’s keyword tool is that it won’t give you many “long tail keywords”, which are keywords with about 4 or more words in the phrase.

For example, instead of “Seattle real estate“, you could bid on the long tail keyword, “Ballard real estate condos for sale“. It’s more obscure and therefore, less competitive.

Of course, at the same time, that particular keyword won’t get as many searches as “Seattle real estate“. But if you have hundreds of these long tail keywords that you’re bidding on, the volume will add up and your budget will thank you for it!

A great long tail keyword research tool I use for my pay per click internet marketing is the one by WordStream. It’s free and gives you a bunch of great keywords that I don’t see with other keyword tools out there. It’s a good idea not to rely on just 1 keyword tool so get used to a few and see which ones you like best.

Other solid ones would be Traffic Travis and the famous WordTracker Keyword Tool.

Another area of pay-per-click internet marketing you’ll want to focus on is the ad that you write. They’re typically pretty short, in terms of the space the pay-per-click company gives you, so you need to make the most of it.

Headlines are the big key! Make sure you’re writing eye-catching headlines that people want to click on and that are relevant to your site or blog.

The beauty of writing these ads is that you can write several and test them against one another. Google, for example, will create a test for you and display your ads evenly to see which ones are performing best.

You’ll want to stick with your ads that have the highest click-through-rate (number of people clicking your ad vs. the number of times your ad appears) and stop the ads that are performing poorly.

Test, test, test! I can’t stress that enough!

While you can set your pay-per-click campaign on autopilot, for the most part, you’ll need to maintain it from time to time.

You’ll want to see which of your keyword bids need to be adjusted higher or lower, depending on the ranking you’re getting.

You’ll want to check your ads and delete poor ones but also create new ones to try out.

You’ll want to add keywords until you have a gigantic list, preferably in the thousands if you can get there. The more low cost keywords you have, the more clicks you’ll get. Plus you’ll get a bigger bang for your buck.

It really all comes down to testing, as it is with any marketing weapon. Just have patience and tweak aspects of your marketing to get better results. It’s not magic; it’s just hard work and diligence. Pay attention to the numbers and you’ll be successful.

Google and Yahoo have put together some fantastic tutorials for their pay-per-click programs, which I recommend checking out. It’ll make the whole process very clear for you.

Also, if you have the cash but don’t have the time, you can have a company handle your entire pay-per-click campaign for you. They’ll set it up, gather all the keywords, select the bid amounts based on your budget, etc.

Yes, they charge a monthly fee but if you want to be hands-off and have the money to spend, it’s worthwhile. There are a number of these companies to choose from but I’d recommend looking at the services WordStream offers.

WordStream is the company I mentioned earlier that has the free keyword research tool. They also have search engine optimization and pay-per-click services. Check them out, if that’s what you’re looking for.

In the end, pay-per-click is simple in that you write some ads, set the price you’re willing to pay and start seeing traffic hitting your site, sometimes in a matter of minutes.

But in some ways it’s not so simple because you need to select a large number of solid “keywords” that people will search for in order for your ad to pull up. That process can be tedious and time consuming but it’s not as bad as weeding the garden in your backyard.

Like I said, as with any other marketing weapon, you’ll want to test, test, test. It takes a little time to learn how all this pay-per-click stuff works but it’s well worth the learning curve.

Pay-per-click is cheap because you can pay as low as a nickel per click. But it can get expensive if there are a lot of other advertisers vying for the same keywords you are.

If that’s the case and you’re trying to get in the top position in the results, you could end up paying through the nose. Some keywords cost $14 PER CLICK just to get on the first page of the search results! Go with long tail keywords and watch your pennies. Again, WordStream’s Keyword Research Tool will help you do this.

Pay-per-click is extremely effective because you can set up your account and start seeing traffic to your site in minutes. It’s not so effective, though, if you’ve picked poor keywords or keywords that aren’t relevant to your website or blog. It’s ok because you won’t get billed for anyone clicking on your ad but not so good because you also won’t get any traffic.

But if you’re looking to save some cash and target your market like crazy, try using Facebook’s pay-per-click advertising. It’s relatively cheaper than Google and Yahoo and you can really drill down on the demographic information to target your audience super-duper well.

You can target prospects by age, education, geographic location, language, keywords they have in their Facebook account, etc. Google and Yahoo allow you to do some of this too but Facebook let’s you go further.

Facebook also has a different kind of audience. It’s all about being social with your friends so people aren’t exactly searching for a certain topic, as they would with Google or Yahoo. That is probably one of the reasons why the “click-through-rate” (CTR) with Facebook is quite a bit lower than Google.

But even with a lower CTR, you’ll still get a TON of “impressions” (having your ad show up on a person’s Facebook homepage so they see it). If nothing else, it’s fantastic branding for you. Repetition is a HUGE part of any marketing weapon.

This way, even if someone doesn’t click on your ad the first time, they’re likely to see it again and click or at least have your name/logo in their head. And remember, you can target your audience down to geographic location so branding really comes into play here.

As with Google and Yahoo, you can usually find promo codes on the web for a “$50 credit” to start your Facebook pay-per-click campaign with. Just do a Google search for it. It’s free money, take it.

Bottom line, pay-per-click is awesome! But like any other marketing weapon, there are pros and cons. It has the potential to send rivers of visitors to your site. But you need to learn how to use it properly or else you’ll flush a bunch of cash down the toilet.

It’s not that hard, you just need to take the time to learn and play with it. And frankly, the time you spend learning pay-per-click marketing will pay you back a million times over (hopefully literally!).

Content driven sites can generate revenue through pay per click ads.

Pay per click ads placed by advertisers in the Google AdWords
program can be displayed on your website to generate revenues
from click-throughs resulting from the Google ads. Once upon a
time putting pay per click ads on your website for the purpose of
revenue generation was a difficult and time-consuming task to
accomplish because you had to beat the bushes, so to speak, to
find advertisers who were willing to place their advertisements
on your website and to pay you a fee for click-throughs.

Tracking of the click-throughs was also nightmarish. However,
using pay per click ads on a website has become an increasing
popular and highly desirable business opportunity recently due to
Google’s introduction of the AdSense program which makes it much
easier for website operators to generate substantial amounts of
revenue through pay per click ads.

The secret to making money with pay per click ads through the
Google AdSense program is to create informative, content-filled
web pages that are keyword rich which will pull in relevant pay
per click ads that your website visitors will actually find to be
interesting so they will click on them.

Relevance is crucial since you get paid for successful click-
throughs, although Google AdSense also has a cost-per-impression
option in addition to the pay-per-click ads. The concept sounds
simple enough, but the question is, how do you create such web
pages to make pay per click ads a revenue generating addition to
your website?

In essence, there are three crucial aspects to achieve when
creating content pages for a website that is geared to producing
income from pay per click ads using the Google AdSense program:

1.	Website traffic

2.	Keyword popularity

3.	Relevance of content

In order to make money from pay per click ads posted on your
website, you absolutely have to have website traffic – lots of
it. So, you will need to engage in internet marketing that will
successfully drive loads of qualified traffic to your website.

You may accomplish this through search engine optimization, pay
per click advertising, distribution of expert articles with a
link to your website, ezine advertising, link exchanges, email
marketing, participation in newsgroups, or other effective
internet marketing techniques.

Keyword popularity is an important consideration when planning
for your website content. If there are not people surfing the net
using certain keywords to obtain information then the keywords
aren’t worth a flip for generating income through pay per click
ads.

The average bid for keywords placed by advertisers for pay per
click ads through Google AdWords is also important because as an
AdSense participant, the fee you draw per click-through to pay
per click ads depends on what the advertisers are paying for
click-throughs. Selecting higher paying keywords may make getting
top search engine placement for your website more difficult or
costly, but it will also draw in greater revenues from pay per
click ads.

The relevance of your content to the keywords you are using is
really important for more than one reason:

First of all, the quality of the content has to be good and
useful in order to maintain the attention of your audience long
enough for them to consider clicking on your pay per click ads.

Second, Google has some pretty smart tools which display pay per
click ads that are relevant to your content and will be of
interest to your readers. Keyword usage and the content itself
will affect the quality of the pay per click ads that are
displayed in regard to relevance.

With well designed websites and well planned Google AdSense
strategies, launching informative, content-rich websites that
display Google ads can be a profitable internet business
opportunity. With content sites you simply provide high quality
information for free to website visitors. The pay per click ads
are your revenue source.

Of course, you can use pay per click ads to supplement the
revenue on other types of revenue generating websites, but many
internet entrepreneurs are realizing the value of providing free
information for the purpose of producing income from pay per
click ads through the Google AdSense program.

Paying as low as one cent per click for advertising can be very tempting. It can work out more expensive, though, when you work out the cost per true human browser.

Pay Per Click advertising has been around a few years now. Pay per click is a multi million dollar industry which, as yet, is still in its infancy. There is no telling how big PPC will become in the future, but there are certainly many young players in the business, and new PPC search engines appearing all the time. Should we use the smaller PPC search engines? Should we use PPC advertising at all?

Is Pay Per Click Advertising a Valuable Tool?

From a personal point of view, the answer to that is a simple “yes”. Quite simply, I have used pay per click advertising since 2003, and have got some excellent results. Those results have been mixed, of course, with some very bad results too. But that’s advertising for you, online or offline. You try, you test, you monitor, you experiment, all the time aiming to get better and better results.

The basic advantage of pay per click is built into its name. Your ad will cost you nothing, except when somebody clicks on it to go to your website. Imagine being able to do that in the offline world: place an ad in a glossy magazine, and only pay each time somebody sends for a brochure or calls your sales hotline. I used to sell advertising in glossy magazines. Advertisers can spend $3000 on an ad and get no response. A small business can spend $500 on an ad and get no response, really hurting their business cash flow in the process.

In principle, pay per click is a wonderful idea, but the real problem is in the quality, and the quality can be watered down so easily by fraud. Remember, you are paying for a click. That click could be automated, it could be a genuine person looking for a product like yours, or it could be someone clicking because they are being paid to click.

Pay per click advertising is a valuable tool, but you need to monitor with care.

Is 9 Cents Per Click Cheaper Than 1 Cent Per Click?

My first use of pay per click advertising was with Google Adwords, followed a month or two later by Overture. I have always liked Google Adwords, and it is still my favourite today. It combines high quality clicks, with ease of use and a comprehensive amount of useful management information to help your campaigns. To me, it is way above the others, including Overture.

Once I had campaigns set up at Overture and Adwords I let them run, and it was quite a few months before I started to research the smaller PPC companies. Many of the newer entrants in the field offer tempting starting credits and bids as low as 1 cent per click. I must admit, a year ago I was quite excited about getting loads of clicks at a cent a time.

The old saying “you get what you pay for” did not enter my head at the beginning, but it soon came to mind as I saw those 1 cent payments rocket. I tried several of the newer PPC search engines, but two in particular just zipped through my funds, and unlike Google Adwords, you could not set a daily budget.

I decided to take a closer look at my website stats to see what was happening to those 1 cent clicks. What I did was compare one of the new PPC search engines I was using, with Google Adwords. The comparison was based on whether a visitor to the landing page immediately exited again, or whether they browsed other pages on the site. The landing pages were identical.

I already knew Google Adwords provided genuine visitors, as I first used them for a real estate website, and the ads led to sales; big money for small outlay. In effect, I was using Adwords as my proven control.

The results of the comparison were very convincing. Over a one month period the following happened:

1. From small PPC X, 1187 entered the landing page and 1165 of those exited the site from the same page. That’s 98 % were a quick in and out.

2. From Google Adwords, 161 entered the landing page, of whom only 44 exited from the same page. That’s 27% were a quick in and out.

As you can see, only 2% of the “X” visitors bothered looking around the website. If I had got the same result from Google, then I could just say it was because it was a lousy landing page. But I did not. 73% of the Google visitors went on to have a good look around the website, that’s 36 times better.

So, what do we make of these figures? I used the same keywords for “X” and Google, so I should have had similar results. I have to conclude that “X” was sending very poor quality traffic, Google it’s usual high standard.

I then worked out the more realistic cost per browser ie the cost of each visitor who stayed at the website and looked around. With “X” I was paying 1 cent per click, and with Google an average 9 cents per click. You will see from the following table the cost per browser for Google worked out much cheaper than “X”, less than 1 quarter the price in fact:

1. The 22 people who stayed on the website to browse from “X” cost $11.87, or $0.54 per browser.

1. The 117 people who stayed on the website to browse from Google cost $14.49, or $0.12 per browser.

On the surface, it might always seem the smaller search engines are cheaper. However, it is wise to monitor the reality. If you want real visitors to your website, ensure that is what you are getting. Would you rather pay 12 cents for a genuine visitor or 54 cents?

These results are, of course, from one test. You may get different results. I think the lesson here is to monitor very closely what is happening with your paid for clicks. Cheap may mean expensive; expensive may mean cheap but good value.

All is not what it seems when you compare prices of Pay Per Click search engines.

Pay per click affiliate programs are the sure way to make money, but only when you know the sure way to doing it.

There are lots of ways to make money online considering the different types of affiliate programs today. It all depends on which type of affiliate program you are comfortable and are willing to market. Some affiliate programs are very easy to market and make money, while others may need marketing tactics in order to make a profit from them.

One type of an affiliate program that can be easy to make money with is pay per click affiliate programs. Pay per click affiliate programs don’t need marketing tactics and strategies. You can join the program and start earning money the same day.

I’m going to give you more information about pay per click affiliate programs and how to go about making with these type of affiliate programs.

What is pay per click?

Pay per click is a form of advertising where by a website owner bids on an amount he is willing to pay per click on that particular search engine or site. The search engine creates listings and the advertisers bid against each other for higher listing ranking for a specific keyword or phase.

The website with the highest bid in that particular keyword will get number one rankings in the pay per click search engine. The second and third highest bidders will then follow below the highest bidder and so on. So your website ads appear prominently on the results based on the amount you have agreed to pay per click.

How to make money from pay per click

Making money with pay per click can be very simply then pay per sale and pay per lead. With pay per sale or pay per lead, you are only get paid when a visitor clicks through and makes the desired action, like buy the product or sign up for maybe a newsletter. While with pay per click you get paid based from the click through your visitors will make on the advertisers sites. The search engine shares a certain percentage of what the advertiser pays them for that click with you.

With pay per click incorporate into your affiliate program, you can earn additional revenue form visitors that will not find what they were looking for. And since pay per click will advertise websites similar and in the same niche as your website, it is good reference to your visitors.

If you specifically want to earn income form pay per click, then you should build websites or blogs with pay per click ads well optimized for your website visitors, so you can get a good click through rate.

Now, make sure to build a website with good content. By good content I mean you should get content with well optimized keywords and lots of it, to give your visitors quality information and search engine spider’s good content.

Pay per click affiliate programs need lots of traffic. You will not make that much money with just a few visitors a day. And to even make it worse, what if those visitors don’t even click on those ads. The best way to drive traffic to pay per click affiliate programs is through search engines. If you optimized your website for good rankings, then you can make a fortune from pay per click affiliate programs. So there is a lot to consider when using pay per click affiliate programs.

Make sure the pay per click ads are well visible to the website visitors, so they can be driven to click on the ads. But keep in mind that you are not allowed to tell the visitors in any way to click on these ads because your account can get suspended and you can lose all your previous earnings. So try to blend the ads with the rest of your site and put the ads at the very top and bottom of your webpage for maximum click through.

Although it can be easy making money with pay per clicks, you definitely need a lot of traffic. Ten or twenty visitors a day will not make you much. Get your traffic tactics right, drive traffic through those pay per click ads, then you will earn revenue the simple way.

When new local advertisers first begin using tools like AdWords or Overture, they usually grab a bunch of keywords, fill in a pay-per-click (PPC) ad, activate the account and wait for the new visitors to start showing up on their website and requesting their service. Rare is the advertiser who succeeds with such a simple, unrefined campaign.

There are several steps involved in creating a winning PPC campaign. Among them, detailed keyword research and well thought-out PPC ad design. But even if those 2 things are done exceptionally well, your chances of success still hinge entirely on your landing page, or what I prefer to call your Lead Conversion Page. A Lead Conversion Page is the web page that shows up when a potential client clicks on your ppc ad. For most new advertisers that page is the home page of your website. Unfortunately, most home pages don’t make suitable Lead Conversion Pages.

A good Lead Conversion Page is one that fulfills the specific promise of the PPC ad. When a client clicks on your ad, they need to immediately find–in obvious fashion–whatever it is they wanted when they clicked on your ad. What that means is that if you create an ad for $20 off carpet cleaning, you need to send them to a page that’s all about having their carpet cleaned for $20 off. Not the home page of your site that has information about carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, pet odor removal, water extraction or anything else. The key is you want to eliminate distractions, and make it easy for your visitor to respond to the offer you made in your PPC ad.

Creating a new and improved Lead Conversion Page doesn’t require a major overhaul of your website, or special programming (in most cases). Usually you can just add a page or redo the one you’re already using. Don’t make the mistake of sending your visitors to your cluttered, distracting home page. Simple is good.
